Generals Bump Off Hotspur U-21, 9-2
|
Washington beat Phoenix at Hotspur Kiddie Complex, escaping with a 9-2 win. The win in large part was due to center fielder Elmer Hudgins, who earned player of the game honors. He went 3 for 5 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Washington reliever Ronaldo Matos picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. José Ruíz absorbed the loss. The Generals have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 2nd win in 8 games.
Also making an impact was shortstop Pedro Villarreal, who drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the first for Washington. For the game, Villarreal went 2 for 4 with a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"I thought we played a nice game," Villarreal told the Washington Daily. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
