Herons Take Tight Tilt
|
The Hammond Herons racked up a win at Torch Field, bumping off the Mancelona Torch, 2-1. Tony Alfonso, who started for Hammond, pitched effectively for his team. The second-place Herons now have a 5-game winning streak.
David Meléndez drove in one run for Hammond. The 22-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the top of the sixth. That's when he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Ron Manning. It was his 22nd RBI of the season.
"Runs were at a premium," said Hammond manager Ricardo Martínez.
