The Hammond Herons got a magnificent performance from pitcher Pancho Mastache, who muffled the Highwood offense en route to a tight 2-1 Herons win at The Heron Refuge. Mastache went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 10. His record improves to 6-4. Kris Ross was called on to finish, recording his 9th save.
Gomez Talone had a productive at-bat for the Herons with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded, the catcher grounded out, driving in 1 run. The at-bat was important in the Hammond win.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Talone.
At 41-28, Hammond is in second place in the Menard's A.
