Hops Fall to .500 After Loss to Eclipse
|
The Northville Eclipse beat the Yakima Hops, 8-3, at Hops Park. The Eclipse got a fine performance from first baseman Koen van den Bogaert, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times. Zalontae Hillary was the winner. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. The Eclipse' win now puts them at 52-42.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the third inning when the Eclipse sent teenager Melito Báez to the plate against Hops hurler Bryan McKinney. With a runner on 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 1-0 fastball to score 1.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said van den Bogaert.
