Rico Delivers Walk-Off Win for Screaming Eagles
|
In a tight contest at Mercer Island Grounds, the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles edged the Asheville Highlanders by the score of 5-4. The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles' first baseman José Rico, who blasted 1 home run, was named the player of the game. Mercer Island reliever Ricardo Gómez was credited with the win, to go to 5-1. Luis López took the loss for Asheville. Mercer Island is 46-34 and Asheville, with the loss, 28-52.
The clutch at-bat in the bottom of the ninth belonged to Rico. Facing Luis López with a runner on 1st, the Mercer Island first baseman had a 2-run home run. Game over, walk-off style!
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Mercer Island manager Jared Gilbert. "It's usually not just one thing."
