Highlanders Turn Back Northville, 8-4
|
Asheville beat Northville at Asheville Park, escaping with a 8-4 win. The win in large part was due to catcher Tomás Valenzuela, who earned player of the game honors. He went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Romano Martínez, credited with the win, is now 5-5. He allowed 1 run on 7 hits in 6 innings. Brandon McAllister got credit for the save for Asheville. It was his 5th of the year.
Javier Luna was a key contributor to the win for the Highlanders. In the bottom of the fourth with no one out, the light-hitting third baseman stroked a home run to center. He was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Luna told reporters after the game.
At 22-39, Asheville is in last place in the Premier AA.
