Mercer Island beat Yakima at Mercer Island Grounds, eking out a 6-3 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Tomiji Saikawa, who earned player of the game honors. Fernando Torrez earned the save for Mercer Island, his 2nd. Mercer Island now has a 3-game win streak.
In the bottom of the fourth, Mercer Island center fielder Héctor Santandreu had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and no outs, Santandreu stroked a bases-clearing double to right. It made the score 5-2, Mercer Island. For the game, he was 1-3 with a double, while adding 3 RBI.
"Enjoyed this one," Saikawa told the Mercer Island Herald. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
