Hops Suffer 7-6 Loss to Highlanders
|
The Asheville Highlanders beat the Yakima Hops, 7-6, at Hops Park. The Highlanders got a fine performance from catcher Tomás Valenzuela, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 4 with 2 triples and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Asheville reliever Bobby Irvine was the winner. His record is now 3-2. Rodrigo Sandoval took the loss. Luis López finished to wrap up his 3rd save.
One important at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the seventh. That's when Jan Gosselin reached on an error by the SS. The Highlanders went on to win.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Richard Weaver.
The win puts the Highlanders at 9-18, while the Hops drop to 17-10.
