Hops Clip Screaming Eagles in Tight Contest
|
Yakima rode a good effort from starter Jorge Cruz to beat the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles at Hops Park. The final score was 4-2. Yakima reliever Rodrigo Sandoval picked up the win to move to 1-1. Jesús López suffered the loss. Reynaldo Maestas earned the save for Yakima, his 5th.
Yakima took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Armando Carmona hit a clutch 2-run home run to bring Hops fans to their feet.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Yakima skipper Craig Walters. "I can't complain."
The Screaming Eagles fall to 9-11 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2027 season.
