Shirley, Lancaster Prevail in Pitchers' Duel
|
Pitcher Jon Shirley was sensational for the Lancaster Farmers in his team's 2-1 triumph over the San Antonio BC. Shirley received player of the game honors, while picking up the win. Raúl Nieto closed the game out for Lancaster, earning his 4th save. The win pushes Lancaster to a record of 10-10.
Shirley, a native of Houston, Texas, was dealing all game. He kept San Antonio hitters off-balance, while giving the Farmers 8 quality innings. Shirley threw 110 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 8.
In postgame comments to the Lancaster Today, Shirley said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
