Late Rally Gets Win for Highlanders
|
Asheville beat San Antonio, 7-5. The win in part was due to third baseman Javier Luna, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while scoring 2 times. Bobby Irvine picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Adam Green was tagged with the loss. The save went to Brandon McAllister, his 1st this season.
In the top of the 8th, designated hitter Ed Lastinger gave Asheville the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Highlanders had been trailing 5-4, but the two-out single off San Antonio pitcher Colm Soto changed that -- and Asheville went on to win.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Asheville Highlanders manager Richard Weaver. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
Asheville is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 3rd in 9 games.
