Dodgers Score Late, Stun 1837 BBC, 3-1
|
The Brooklyn Dodgers grabbed a 3-1 win over the Houston 1837 BBC at Houston Grounds. Brooklyn first baseman Chad Armstrong was 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice to earn player of the game honors. Brooklyn reliever Brandeis Vogt picked up the win, upping his record to 10-4. Francisco García took the loss. Sjaak Bonne earned the save, his 32nd, for the Dodgers.
The most important at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With two out, Francisco García threw a 0-1 cutter to Armstrong, which he hit to left-center for a 2-run home run. It put Brooklyn in front, 3-1.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Brooklyn manager Troy Holl.
The first-place Brooklyn Dodgers have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
