Smoke Win in 13
|
The Atlanta Smoke topped the Panama City Piranhas, 4-3, in 13 innings. Atlanta left fielder Albert Morán earned player of the game honors with his performance. He was 4-5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. Atlanta reliever Iván García got the win, raising his record to 3-1. Valentín Montenegro was tagged with the loss. Fred Pitts, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Bartolo Morales came to bat in the top of the 13th. Facing Panama City pitcher Valentín Montenegro, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Atlanta on top, 4-3.
Morán told the Atlanta Herald: "We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win."
Atlanta is third in the Premier League with a record of 37-32.
