Hawks Jolt Evergreens with Late Rally
|
Evergreen Park was the site for Third League action featuring the Portland Evergreens and Chicago Hawks.
The inspired effort of Portland center fielder Eddie Ménard was not enough to prevent a 6-5 loss to the Chicago Hawks. Ménard went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The Hawks raised their record to 24-41.
In the top of the 8th, catcher Mike Pace gave Chicago the lead when he hit a 3-run home run. The Hawks had been trailing 5-3, but the two-out home run off Portland pitcher Ronaldo Rey changed that -- and Chicago went on to win.
"We're feeling pretty good in this clubhouse right now after that one," Pace told the Chicago Citizen.
