Red Knights Bump Off Legion, 7-5
|
Capital District first baseman Sergio Ortíz was instrumental in his team's 7-5 win over the Kingston Township Legion. Ortíz, who is rated as the 25th best prospect by BNN, went 3-5 with 3 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Red Knights. Luis Hernández earned the win for Capital District. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 3-3. Miguel Toro finished the game for Capital District and earned his 11th save.
With Capital District leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Ortíz hit a fastball from Shigemasa Horiuchi for a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Red Knights ahead, 3-0.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Ortíz told a Capital District Daily reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
The 11th-place Legion have lost 4 straight games.
