Continentals Defeat Loons, 9-7
|
The Chesapeake Continentals outlasted Randolph Descoteaux and the Minnesota Loons, 9-7. Descoteaux was impressive in the loss. The Minnesota catcher was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Javier Mena, who threw 102 pitches over 8.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 5 runs on 8 hits. The 5th-place Continentals now have a win-loss record of 34-35.
Alberto Esquivel dealt the Loons a blow in the top of the fifth. Batting with the bases loaded and Chesapeake leading 1-0, Esquivel, who is tied for 5th in the SAA in triples with 3, hit a 1-0 curveball for a 2-run double.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Esquivel, "but we got it done."
