Miners, Berns Pin Bad Loss on Blue Sox
|
The Marquette Miners thumped the Irving Blue Sox, 15-2, at Blue Sox Ballpark. Edwin Berns was a big reason his team got the win. Berns went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 4 times and drove in 2. Chiel Abspoel, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 6-2. The Marquette Miners have an impressive 39-21 record.
Berns contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Marquette in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Berns took a knuckle curve from Ernesto Cortéz and stroked the double to right. His 4th double of the season allowed the Miners to leap in front, 3-2.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Berns said. "We did a pretty good job of that today."
