Irving beat Westwood at Sixshooters Stadium, eking out a 4-2 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Jim Unknown, who earned player of the game honors. Unknown, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Irving's record now stands at 23-34, placing them 8th in the Silver AA.
A defensive miscue in the top of the fourth could have cost the Blue Sox. With Irving leading 1-0, Carlos De Jesús reached on an error by the right fielder, driving in 1 run. In the end, Irving was still able to win the ballgame.
In comments to the Irving Gazette, Unknown admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
