Ríos, Blue Sox Too Much for Polar Bears
|
With left fielder Ricardo Ríos leading the charge, the Irving Blue Sox defeated the Billings Polar Bears, 9-4, at Blue Sox Ballpark. Ríos, who is tied for 10th in the SAA in doubles with 8, went 3 for 5 with a triple and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 6. Jim Unknown was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Willie Simmons locked down his 1st save.
One important at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the fifth, when Ríos hit a 2-run triple. The Blue Sox went on to win.
"We maximized our offense today," said Irving skipper John Parkinson. "That makes everyone's life easier."
Irving occupies 7th place in the Silver AA at 19-25.
