Behind a solid performance from shortstop Parker Smith, the Brinkley Belugas defeated the Hialeah Dodos, 6-1. Smith went 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Belugas. Juan Hernández got the win, improving to 1-1. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Earning his 2nd save for Brinkley was José Trujillo.
Smith came through with some timely hitting for Brinkley. With the score 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth and no one down, Smith hit a 2-1 changeup for a grand slam home run. It was his 4th home run of the season -- and a big reason the Belugas managed to win.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Hialeah manager John Muñóz. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
The Dodos have now dropped 5 straight.
