Behind a solid performance from designated hitter Mike Cook, the Brinkley Belugas defeated the Naperville Battlekings, 11-2. Cook was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Belugas. Brinkley reliever Steven Jones was the winner. His record is now 5-4. The losing pitcher was Kenshin Koike. Enrique García closed the door for Brinkley, picking up his 1st save of the year.
With runs few and far between, the Belugas had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Brinkley came in the top of the third. That's when left fielder Enrico Betancourt delivered a run-scoring triple. The triple was hit off Kenshin Koike and made the score 2-1, Belugas. Betancourt went 1 for 5 with a triple, while scoring 2 times.
"You can't sugarcoat this one," said Naperville manager Bobby Robinson. "We got flat-out beat."
The Belugas now have a record of 40-44.
