Buzz Cut Down Humpbacks, 5-3
|
The Salt Lake City Buzz defeated the Alaskan Humpbacks, 5-3, at Spirits Stadium. Salt Lake City center fielder Vicente Cruz was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 3-4 with a triple and a double, while adding 3 RBI. Caleb Sobieski, who went 7.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 2-1. Jim Unknown recorded his 1st save for Salt Lake City.
Cruz came through with some timely hitting for Salt Lake City. With the score 2-0 in the bottom of the third and one down, Cruz hit a 1-2 curveball for a 2-run triple. It was his 3rd triple of the season -- and a big reason the Buzz managed to win.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Alaskan manager José Vázquez.
The win was the 16th in 20 games this season for the Buzz, who appear to be on course for a return trip to the playoffs.
