"Getting ahead of the hitters is the key," said McCarthy.
Santa Barbara Golden Cranes starter Joey McCarthy pitched a strong game against the Brinkley Belugas at Belugas Ballpark, leading the Golden Cranes to a 6-5 win. McCarthy got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 7 hits and walked 4 over 6.2 innings. McCarthy allowed 5 earned runs. John Brown nailed down his 2nd save.
Santa Barbara took control in the top of the sixth. With two out and the bases loaded, Ruud van Ineveld hit a bases-clearing double to make it 6-3, Golden Cranes.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said McCarthy.
With the loss, Brinkley falls to 0-4.
