Hawks Win at New Amsterdam, 4-3
|
New Amsterdam shortstop Hank Wilder was sensational. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Chicago beat the Dutchmen, 4-3. Wilder was named the player of the game despite the loss. Earning his 3rd save of the year was Decheng Sun. The Chicago Hawks, now 5-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.
It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Aurelio Álvarez, the 26-year old left fielder . Álvarez contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Chicago up, 4-3.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Álvarez said.
