Castro Goes on Rampage Against Torch
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026
Edgardo Castro was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over Torch Field, collecting 5 hits, but wasn't able to win the game. He got his 15 minutes of fame, but the Mancelona Torch got the 3-2 victory over the Niagara Falls Expos.
"Headlines and highlights are great, but it takes a lot of luster off it because we lost the game," he said after the game. After his first couple of hits, the eyes of everybody in the ballpark were on him each time Castro stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Niagara Falls shortstop said, "I never realized that hitting a little ball around could cause so much commotion."
When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate, and hit the ball where they ain't."
That's exactly what he did today as Castro finished the game with 5 hits in 8 at-bats and a line in the record book. Edgardo Castro singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 9th, singled in the 11th, grounded out in the 13th, struck out in the 15th and walked in the 17th.
Presently Castro is batting .250 and has collected no home runs, 5 RBIs, .284 OBP and scored 7 runs.
