Middies Fall to .500 After Loss to Rangers
|
Austin Rangers starter John Wilkins turned in a sterling performance against the Grafton Middies, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. Wilkins, now 4-5, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. Júlio Rodríguez was called on to finish, recording his 18th save.
Austin took the lead in the bottom of the third on a big hit from Count Dante. On a 2-1 cutter from Wayne Hurst, Dante hit a 2-run double. That made it 3-1, Rangers. For the day, Dante was 2-3 with a double and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"I like what I saw today," said Austin manager Jordan Calhoun, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
The Rangers are now 46-38, while the Middies fall to 42-42.
