Middies Slip Past Phoenix, 6-4

Grafton and Phoenix duked it out at Chase Field and the Middies came out victorious.
The Middies had to overcome a fine effort from Phoenix pitcher Pedro Valdéz to grab a 6-4 win at Chase Field. Valdéz went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. Lynwood Matos, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 16th save.
The most critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With no one out, Wes Bradley hit a full count cutter from Edgar Capello for a 2-run single. It put Grafton in front, 5-4.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Phoenix manager Michael Esposito. "But we decided not to take it."
The Middies now have a record of 29-32 with the win over Phoenix.
