Retrievers Prevail, 5-3, Over Buckhead
|
The Northern Virginia Retrievers beat the Buckhead Bowties, 5-3, at Buckhead Grounds. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Bob Heller, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Ilie Paunescu got the save, the 10th for him this season. Buckhead, at 16-33, has lost 4 straight.
The Retrievers got a big at-bat from Alfredo Pizarro. For the game, Pizarro went 1 for 4 with a triple, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 1st triple of the season gave Northern Virginia a 4-2 lead.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Pizarro.
