Pitcher Makoto Kato was sensational for the Houston 1837 BBC in his team's 2-1 triumph over the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC. Kato received player of the game honors, while picking up the win. The winning pitcher was Kato, now 5-2. He tossed 8.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 2. Francisco Valdés picked up the save for Houston, his 14th of the year.

Also pitching in was Houston left fielder Casey Cavell, who hammered a solo home run in the top of the fourth. For the game, Cavell went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times.

"Some of the guys in here work pretty hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Cavell told the Houston Daily News.

With the win, Houston has a record of 22-23. Thunder Bay falls to 30-15.
