Late Rally by Retrievers Secures Win
|
Northern Virginia left fielder Francisco Ornelas was a significant contributor in his team's 4-3 triumph over the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC. He went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk for Northern Virginia. The Retrievers are now 21-20, while the Northern Lions BC fall to 28-13.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Cole Thrash came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Thunder Bay pitcher Jorge Castillo, he hit a 0-2 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Northern Virginia on top, 4-3.
"We won," Thrash told assembled media after the game. "I guess that's all that really matters."
