Pérez Delivers Clutch At-Bat for Austin in Walk-Off Win
|
For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.
The Rangers took Northern Virginia pitcher Aurelio López's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Rangers Stadium. The final score was 4-3. López went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Austin reliever Weston Fisher got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Ilie Paunescu was tagged with the loss.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth. That's when Austin shortstop Ricardo Pérez, facing Ilie Paunescu, had a run-scoring ground out. It gave the Rangers the 4-3 win.
In comments to the Austin Daily, Pérez admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
The Rangers move to 20-19 with the win, while the Retrievers drop to 20-19.
