Pitcher Natalino Golaio was sensational for the Northern Virginia Retrievers in his team's 7-1 triumph over the Austin Rangers. Golaio received player of the game honors, while picking up the win. The second-place Retrievers raised their record to 20-17.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the third, with the game tied, Roberto Sánchez was at the plate when Northern Virginia scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Retrievers to go in front, 1-0.

"I felt we were ready to go," said Northern Virginia manager David Lenlister. "Our pregame was pretty good."
