The Yellowknife Dragonblood beat the South Beach Blaze, 4-0, at The Ballpark on the Beach. Yellowknife center fielder Jeff Lawson earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Cecil Szatkowski picked up the win, improving his season record to 2-5. He struck out 2 in 6 innings. Hasegawa Shoin, credited with the save, is now 3 for 4 in save opportunities.
With Yellowknife leading 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Lawson hit a changeup from Malulani Anakone for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Dragonblood ahead, 4-0.
"We came out with the short end of the stick," said South Beach skipper Justin Trewhells.
The third-place Dragonblood raised their record to 56-40.
