Walleye Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Generals
|
Washington first baseman Ken Bone was sensational. He was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Walla Walla beat the Generals, 5-3. Bone was named the player of the game despite the loss. Sung-hyo Yi, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Fernando Barraza earned the save, his 6th.
In the bottom of the 8th, designated hitter Shuichi Saito gave Walla Walla the lead when he hit a bases-clearing double. The Walleye had been trailing 3-2, but the two-out double off Washington pitcher Iván Vázquez changed that -- and Walla Walla went on to win.
"We're in the driver's seat," said Saito. "I like our chances."
The first-place Walleye now have a win-loss record of 58-34.
