U-21 Cut Down Blaze, 6-3
|
A 4-RBI performance from Jesús Vargas, who leads the PA in extra base hits with 33, helped the Athletic Club KC U-21 beat the South Beach Blaze, 6-3. Athletic Club KC reliever Joe Walton picked up the win, upping his record to 1-3. Rob Ford took the loss. Their 45-45 record puts the U-21 5th in the Premier A.
The U-21 beat the Blaze in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the single Gerald Merendino produced in the bottom of the fourth. Batting against South Beach pitcher Rob Ford, he gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
In comments to the Athletic Club KC Citizen, Merendino insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
