Airmen Shut Out U-21
|
Pitcher Merlin Bassett was sensational for the Alameda Airmen in his team's 2-0 triumph over the Athletic Club KC U-21. Bassett received player of the game honors, while picking up the win. Bassett went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 4-5. Billy Mays earned the save, his 3rd.
Adam Staats was a key contributor to the win for the Airmen. In the top of the sixth with one out, the light-hitting second baseman stroked a single to center. He was 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Alameda manager Manuel Hernández. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The last-place Airmen now have a win-loss record of 33-46.
