Walla Walla got a terrific performance from pitcher Ambrose Randall, but it wasn't enough to beat the Athletic Club KC U-21. Athletic Club KC won the ACKC Youth Field contest, 3-2. Randall was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Andrés Martínez picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-3. Bartolo Ruíz was tagged with the loss. Today's win puts Athletic Club KC at 38-35, while Walla Walla falls to 46-27.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the U-21 sent teenager Chee-hwa Tze to the plate against Walleye hurler Ambrose Randall. With runners on 1st and 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a 0-2 fastball to score 2.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Athletic Club KC manager Juan Medellín. "It's usually not just one thing."
