Alameda shortstop Mario Salazar played a vital role in his team's 6-3 triumph over South Beach. He was 2-4 with a triple, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for Alameda. The winner was Merlin Bassett, who threw 101 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits. Alameda is now 24-27, South Beach 22-29.
Tied up with the Blaze in the top of the fifth, the Airmen got a boost from catcher Lloyd Kent. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Kent saw a 2-0 fastball from Nésto Gago and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Alameda on top, 3-2.
