Retrievers Bump Off Northern Lions BC, 7-1
|
Northern Virginia beat Thunder Bay at Ballpark of Northern Virginia, eking out a 7-1 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Aurelio López, who earned player of the game honors. The winning pitcher was López, now 2-3. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 8. Losses have been few and far between for the Northern Lions BC, who are now 13-5.
Also doing his part was left fielder Francisco Ornelas, who stroked a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth for Northern Virginia. For the game, Ornelas was 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Ornelas told the Northern Virginia Herald. "It's as simple as that."
