Getting an impressive start from Rob Ford, South Beach beat Walla Walla by the score of 3-2. Ford, now 1-2, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 5, and allowing 1 earned run. Doug Carlton got the save, the 1st for him this season.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the fourth inning when the Blaze sent teenager Jorge Alejándrez to the plate against Walleye hurler Anatoly Ivanovich. With the bases empty and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a home run off a 1-2 changeup to score 1.
"We found a way to get it done," Alejándrez said.
The Walla Walla Walleye, now 10-5, continue their sluggish start.
