South Beach got a terrific performance from pitcher Rob Ford, but it wasn't enough to beat the Columbia River Rats. Columbia won the The Ballpark on the Beach contest, 4-1. Ford was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings allowing 4 runs. Columbia reliever Chris Plummerton was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Rob Ford took the loss for South Beach. Things have gone south in a hurry for the defending champion River Rats, who notched only their 2nd win in 5 games.

The game was on the line with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Danial Apodaca didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 2nd and South Beach trailing 4-1, Apodaca retired José Rico to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Apodaca, with a wink.
