|
Put-In-Bay pitcher Scotty McKnight did his part in helping his team beat the Phoenix Hotspur U-21, 6-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 7.2 innings, McKnight surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Garrett Harrington closed the door for Put-In-Bay, picking up his 10th save of the year.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the fifth inning when the BC sent teenager Francisco Alfaro to the plate against Hotspur U-21 hurler Maru Pao Pao. With runners on 1st and 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a 2-2 fastball to score 1.
In postgame comments to the Put-In-Bay Daily News, Alfaro said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Put-In-Bay bumps their record to 49-33 with the win.
