Mt. Vernon starter Mark Goldwire pitched effectively against the Grim Reapers at Ballpark of Mt. Vernon. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. Mt. Vernon reliever Valentín Chacón picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Stu Noble was saddled with the loss. Mt. Vernon, at 22-53, sits in last place in the Silver A.

It could have been a different outcome for Mt. Vernon, had it not been for Wilson Sánchez, the 19-year old third baseman . Sánchez contributed a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the 12th inning to put Mt. Vernon up, 4-3.

"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Ricardo García, the Mt. Vernon skipper.
