Bowties Fall Short at Phoenix
|
The Phoenix Hotspur beat the Buckhead Bowties, 5-3, at Buckhead Grounds. Phoenix shortstop Pedro Gómez earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Phoenix reliever Adam Garrison picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Akihiko Rin was saddled with the loss. Jaime van de Weideven earned the save for Phoenix, his 2nd of the year.
The most important at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Akihiko Rin threw a 1-2 cutter to Gómez, which he hit to right-center for a 3-run home run. It put Phoenix in front, 5-3.
"Enjoyed this one," Gómez told the Phoenix Citizen. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
The win lifts Phoenix to a record of 4-6.
