|
Fans who gathered at Hotspur Kiddie Complex saw a good contest between the Mancelona Torch and Phoenix Hotspur U-21.
Getting an impressive start from John Castle, Mancelona beat Phoenix by the score of 3-2. In 8 innings, Castle surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Torch sent teenager Tony Walsh to the plate against Hotspur U-21 hurler Abdel Alamini. With a runner on 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 0-1 circle change to score 1.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Walsh. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
Mancelona goes to 33-16. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
