The Mt. Vernon Bulls defeated the Niagara Falls Expos, 9-1, in USSL Single A action at Ballpark of Mt. Vernon, with Mt. Vernon pitcher Gerard McCall named player of the game. McCall went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. His record improves to 2-2. Even with the win, the Mt. Vernon Bulls have a dismal 9-18 record.
António López went 2 for 5 with a double. He drove in 2 runs for Mt. Vernon. The 20-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. That's when he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Santo Velazco. It was his 14th RBI of the season.
Niagara Falls manager Orlando Batista called the blowout loss "ugly."
