|
The Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC defeated the Phoenix Hotspur, 5-4, in Silver League action at Chase Field. David Smith received player of the game honors. The 9-year veteran was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 walks. He scored 3 times. Thunder Bay reliever Andrés Martínez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Edgar Capello took the loss. Jorge Castillo earned the save, his 2nd, for the Northern Lions BC.
Carlos Rodríguez's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a fastball from Edgar Capello for a run-scoring single. It put Thunder Bay in front, 5-4.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Phoenix manager Michael Esposito.
The win pushes Thunder Bay to a record of 5-0.
