Dominant Performance by Vargas in Mancelona Win
|
Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Mancelona Torch were eager to watch Tomás Vargas square off against Sergio Zamora of the visiting Niagara Falls Expos. In the end, the Torch won the game, 5-2, with Tomás Vargas earning player of the game honors. Juan Reyes, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
Vargas was in the zone all game. He frustrated Niagara Falls hitters while giving the Torch 8 innings of quality work. Vargas threw 106 pitches, allowing 3 hits and getting 9 punchouts.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Mancelona manager George Willis.
