The Belleville Bulls got a strong performance from pitcher Jesús Garces, who stymied the Grand Forks offense en route to a 2-1 win at Belleville Field. Garces, now 4-8, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Ray Goolsby notched his 5th save in 7 chances.
Tied up with the Caterpillars in the bottom of the seventh, the Bulls got a boost from pinch hitter Ernest Daniels. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Daniels saw a 2-1 fastball from Raúl Flores and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Belleville on top, 2-1.
"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," said Garces.
The Bulls, at 33-54, sit in last place in the Menard's A.
