Dominant Performance by Mendoza in Hammond Win
|
In a tight game between the Hammond Herons and the Connetquot Chiefs, pitcher Alberto Mendoza was terrific on the mound. The Hammond right-hander was named the player of the game in Hammond's 3-1 win. Esteban Jiménez finished to wrap up his 23rd save. The win puts the Herons at 51-35, while the Chiefs drop to 47-39.
Mendoza, the winner, is now 10-4. In 8 innings of work, he gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits, while collecting 9 Ks. He essentially shut down the Connetquot offense.
"Alberto was pounding the zone," said Hammond manager Ricardo Martínez.
